Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and Portal 23 Inc ("we", "us"), the maker of Yapkins. By using the Yapkins app you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Your account

You sign in to Yapkins with a Google account. Your account works on one phone at a time: signing in on another phone signs out the one before. You are responsible for activity on your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use Yapkins, and if you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission.

The characters are AI

The characters' replies are written by artificial intelligence. They can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. They are for fun and everyday help, not professional advice: do not rely on them for medical, legal, financial, safety or other important decisions. Weather, recipes, workouts and other information should be checked before you act on them.

Mana and pixel dust

• Chatting with characters uses mana. Free accounts receive a small amount of mana each day, which resets at midnight (UTC). Subscriptions include a larger monthly amount, refilled each month on the day your subscription started. You can buy more mana at any time. Unused mana does not roll over, except as we may describe in the app (for example, converting to pixel dust).
• Mana, pixel dust and unlocked characters are a licence to use features in the app. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred or sold.
• Invites: a friend's invite code can be entered once, at any time. When a friend who entered your invite code first subscribes (or if they already had when they entered it), you receive pixel dust, at a reduced amount with each friend. There's no limit to how many friends you can invite. Your friend receives nothing for it. We may change or end invite rewards at any time.
• We may change how much mana things cost, how much is given, and what can be unlocked, to keep the service running fairly.

Purchases and subscriptions

When purchases and subscriptions are offered, they will be made through Google Play and are also governed by Google Play's terms, including its refund policies. Prices, what each subscription includes and how to cancel will be shown before you buy.

Characters can be tried free before you welcome them for good. If you choose to welcome a character without trying them first, we keep a note of that choice, and refunds that we handle ourselves are not given because a character was not what you expected, except where the law requires them.

Acceptable use

Please do not use Yapkins to:

• break the law, or harm, harass or deceive anyone;
• create content that is sexual involving minors, hateful, violent, or that promotes self-harm;
• try to get around mana limits, reverse engineer the app, or attack, overload or misuse our servers;
• resell or automate access to the characters.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

Your content

What you write and share stays yours. You give us permission to process it only as needed to run Yapkins, as described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for what you send, including making sure you have the right to share any photos.

Our content

The Yapkins app, its characters, art, names and writing belong to Portal 23 Inc, or to the partners we make them with. You may use them only within the app.

Partner characters

From time to time, we may make characters, looks or other things in Yapkins together with, or sponsored by, other companies. They will fit the village like any other character, and we may say who they were made with. Their names, logos and art may belong to those companies. Making them never gives those companies your personal information, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Changes and availability

We are always improving Yapkins, so features and characters may change, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We may update these terms; if we make a significant change we will tell you in the app. Continuing to use Yapkins after a change means you accept the new terms.

Some features depend on your phone, such as its Android version, camera, flash, microphone, compass, motion sensors or location. On some phones, certain filters, effects or features may not be available or may work differently. You can try a character free before buying it to check it works on your phone.

Ending your account

You can stop using Yapkins at any time, and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@yapkins.com. We may end or suspend access if these terms are broken or if we stop offering Yapkins.

Disclaimers and limits

Yapkins is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be error-free or always available, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for any amount more than what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Canadian province in which Portal 23 Inc is incorporated and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
